If you’ve cruised on the New River in downtown Fort Lauderdale, you’ve likely seen the FEC (Florida East Coast) railroad bridge that is typically in the upward position to allow for continuous boat traffic in both directions. As trains approach, the bridge is lowered and subsequently returns to its resting upwards position. When the bridge goes down, all marine traffic is halted.
You can view bridge status in real-time, scheduled inspections/repairs and fixed opening/closure times online – Courtesy of a website that is maintained specifically for this purpose. You can also watch a live streaming video of the bridge position. If you’re frequently on the water, it’s a good idea to bookmark these websites on your mobile phone for on-the-go access.
