Florida has introduced a new sales tax holiday this year and it’s called “Freedom Week” as it coincides with the July 4 holiday. Freedom Week is July 1 through July 7 and during that week, many items and tickets purchased for leisure activities won’t have sales tax. A sample of the items that won’t have tax:
- The first $75 of lifejackets and coolers
- The first $50 of safety flyers
- The first $150 of water skis, wakeboards, knee boards, recreational inflatable water tubes or floats that can be towed
- The first $300 of paddle boards and surfboards
- The first $500 of canoes and kayaks
- The first $75 of paddles and oars
- The first $25 of snorkels, goggles, swimming masks
- The first $75 of fishing rods and reels (if sold individually) OR the first $150 if sold as a set
- The first $30 of tackle boxes or bags
- The first $5 of bait or fishing tackle (if sold individually) OR the first $10 if sold as a set
In addition to purchases made between July 1-7, cultural and recreational events such as movies, state park admissions, plays, concerts and sporting events are tax free from July 1 until Dec 31, 2021.
The rules can be tricky, so I recommended that you confirm any questions using the official guide which includes a telephone number as well. Click here for the link.
